About Me

Welcome to my blog for all library, teaching, and technology-related things.

My name is Inma Galan, I am a high school teacher-librarian at Downers Grove South High School in Downers Grove. This is my 4th year with the district. Prior to working at the high school, I worked at a public library facilitating storytime programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Working with a variety of classes my job changes daily from doing book talks to teaching citation tools. We are a 1:1 school and have the chance to utilize technology daily.  We travel to classes and leverage technology throughout the building.

I am a mom to two boys (16 & 12) and a crazy dog.  I love to travel and immerse myself in new cultures.  I am originally from Spain.  And I just got engaged!

  1. Book talks is something that I have wanted to implement in my classroom for a long time. Maybe one of the technology tools we use in this course will lend itself to book talks! I think it is amazing that you visit classrooms and get kids excited about books and technology! I look forward to hearing your perspective as the course progresses!

  2. Hi Inma,

Welcome to our 677 course! It will be nice to get your perspective as a teacher-librarian. I have a couple of crazy dogs, too...they bring a lot of joy and nuttiness to our house ha! Thank you for joining us in this course. Lea

  3. Hello Inma,
Congratulations on your engagement! I am excited to hear about your experiences as a librarian and the important perspective you have towards technology and students, especially at the high school level. I have always been a fan of the support the librarians give both my students (as well as killer book recommendations!). -Ashley Sichak

  4. Hi Inma,

I'm really looking forward to hearing your perspective as a HS librarian throughout our class! As a HS English teacher, I love collaborating with our librarian to design research opportunities, especially, for our students, so I can't wait to learn more from you. Also, congrats on your engagement--how exciting!

    1. Thank you Maureen. I'm very fortunate to work with an amazing group of librarians and teachers. We truly collaborate with most teachers across the building- from Adaptive PE to Culinary classes, Social studies, English, etc. We love to figure how to create authentic learning experiences for our students.
      Looking forward to learning together.

  5. Buen Dia Inma,

I love to see that as a librarian you are taking these courses to improve your craft! Libraries have come a long way since I was in high school and junior high, some 15 years ago. I love how they are now part of the learning environment and the culture of our school. Our Learning Commons area is the hub of our school and students congregate there during passing periods and before and after school. In our district our LC directors are doing some great things with technology, like having recording studios equipped with green screens, and producing podcast. I look forward to learning alongside of you and learning on how you incorporate technology in your building's library.
