Hello,
My name is Inma Galan. I'm a high school teacher-librarian at Downers Grove South High School. I'm starting my 5th year at DGS HS, prior to working at the high school, I worked at a public library where I facilitated storytimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Ironically I found that we have a preschool site at our high school and have had the opportunity to instruct on how to provide storytimes that support early literacy with the highschool students in those classes. We even have the little preschoolers coming into the library for their storytime.
For me no teaching day is alike, we serve all our students and teachers covering a wide range of topics and lessons. From teaching research skills to citation tools to providing storytime lessons. We are a 1:1 school and leverage our technology every day.
I am a mom to two boys (17 & 13), a dog, two cats, and one adopted dog that lives with us. Our house feels like a small zoo at times. I love to travel and had planned trips to Australia and Spain for this summer that sadly will have to be postponed.
I'm looking forward to working and learning from all of you.
Inma
Hi Inma,
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to meet you and I am sorry to hear about the postponement of your trips this summer. It will just make it that much sweeter when you do get to go! I have never even been out of the country, but hope it will happen some day. What other interesting places have you visited before? I look forward to learning with you during our Engaging e-Learning course.
Sincerely,
Morgan
Hi Inma-
ReplyDeleteI understand your disappointment about traveling: trips to Ireland and Spain (how ironic) were canceled.. but I agree with Morgan, it gives me a reason to look forward to the future!
I would love to know some of the technologies you utilize as a librarian in a high school! I have only been teaching 4 years- all in the same school. We have a LARGE, BEAUTIFUL library.. but funds do not allow for a librarian. Teachers utilize the space more than it's books or services; so I would love to hear about some of the things you do!
Hi Erin,
DeleteYes, I do have many reasons to look forward to future trips.
I'm lucky to work with a great team. We collaborate with teachers to instruct on research, citation tools, etc. For example, with our health teachers students select a topic, conduct research, and create a PSA video or a newsbroadcast (we have a green room for video production). English teachers we have done research for different novels or graphic novels they use in their classroom (find articles to explore a topic) create podcasts or TedTalks. We do traditional book talks and book recommendations. Video editing, etc. We are a 1:1 school and can connect to projectors within the teachers' classrooms which makes going into the teachers' classrooms much easier. We are always willing to figure how to make a project work or create new instruction to support teachers and students.

Hi Inma
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to be the LMC director at Kingsley Elementary School! She is retired now for about 8 years. We used to live behind Downers South way back before I moved to Naperville in 1988, so it is a trip down memory lane to hear you are located there! I too was planning a trip to Ireland this summer so hoping to go next year with our church choir. I am excited to hear your input on eLearning as a librarian! I am a music teacher so feel like there are many things we can learn from each other.
Hi, Inma,
ReplyDeleteI attended Downers Grove North High School.....a few decades ago. Hope you have been able to do some virtual teaching during this elearning time.
