EEND 675 Foundations of Educ Technology

Hello,

My name is Inma Galan.  I'm a high school teacher-librarian at Downers Grove South High School. I'm starting my 5th year at DGS HS, prior to working at the high school, I worked at a public library where I facilitated storytimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.  Ironically I found that we have a preschool site at our high school and have had the opportunity to instruct on how to provide storytimes that support early literacy with the highschool students in those classes.  We even have the little preschoolers coming into the library for their storytime.

This is my 4th class in this program and I'm truly enjoying trying to figure out how to apply the ideas from these classes to my instruction. For me every teaching day is different, we serve all our students and teachers covering a wide range of topics and lessons. From teaching research skills to citation tools to providing storytime lessons.  We are a 1:1 school and leverage our technology every day.

I am a mom to two boys (17 & 13), a dog, two cats, and one adopted dog that lives with us. Our house feels like a small zoo at times.  I love to travel and had planned trips to Australia and Spain for this summer that sadly will have to be postponed.

I'm looking forward to working and learning from all of you.

  1. Hi Inma!

I look forward to learning from you as I think you will have unique insight from a librarian's perspective! I love that your high school supports early literacy with blending high schoolers with the preschool. We do that at my school too but with the daycare! Many times classes push into the daycare to read to the kids. We also have a program called "Balls to Books" where our athletic programs can schedule time to for our athletes to read to the kids as well! It's a very rewarding activity and provides our athletes with a different experience!

I'm excited to grow and learn from you!

    1. Hi Christie

I would love to learn more about your "Balls to Books" programs. One of my coworkers leads a "read aloud" program and I'm sure she would love to know how it works with your athletes.

  2. Hi Inma,

I'm looking forward to hearing about the different educational technology tools you utilize as a teacher/librarian. It's great that the preschool students come to the library for storytime!

  3. Hi Jacob,

My first year the principal observed me working with the high school students doing storytime. It was so much fun! And he thought it was such a unique skill that I can share with our students. Having the preschoolers come to the library is so much fun. They love to run around and the go up to the big kids.

  4. Hi Inma,
Welcome to the course! I'm sure you will have such great experiences to share. I work in the Downers Grove elementary schools (Puffer, Belle Aire, and Herrick) and live by DGS. My 7 and 5 year old will go there someday! I love teaming up with the librarians at my schools, so I'm excited to see all your ideas that come from this course.
